C minor

The first chord to learn is C minor. To play this chord, place your first finger on the D string at the first fret. Leave the G string open. The next chord is C7. To create this chord, put your third finger on the third fret of the A string. C Diminished

To play this chord, you first need to bar the top four strings of your guitar at the first fret using your first finger. This can take some practice to get right. Next, you place your third finger on the G string at the second fret. Finally, you place your fourth finger on the E string at the second fret. These kinds of chords are great ones to try to move around.

C minor 6

To play a C minor 6, bar the top four strings of your guitar at the first fret again. Then add your third finger to the second fret of the G string and your fourth finger to the third fret.

C minor 7

C minor 7 is played by again barring the top four strings of your guitar at the first fret using your first finger. You then add your third finger to the G string at the third fret and your fourth finger to the E string at the third fret.

C Major 7

C Major 7 is a favorite of all jazz musicians. To play this lovely chord, place your third finger on the A string at the third fret and your second finger on the D string at the second fret. Play the top five strings on your guitar when you strum this chord.

C 9

C 9 is another great jazz chord that you will get a lot of use out of. To play this chord, place your second finger on the A string at the third fret and your first finger on the D string at the second fret. Then lay your third finger across the G, B and E strings of your guitar at the third fret. This chord takes a little getting used to as well.

C7 + 5

C7 + 5 is a fairly advanced jazz chord. To play this, place your second finger on the D string at the second fret. Place your third finger on the G string at the third fret, and place your first finger on the B string at the first fret. Finally, Place your fourth finger on the E string at the fourth fret.
